So, the day after Christmas, I had my blood workup as a part of my annual physical. The news was generally good, except for my cholesterol results. Overall was 229, this is considered borderline high. HDL (the good kind) was 51, average for women should be 50-60. LDL (the bad kind) was 153. This is considered borderline high. Should be below 129. So, I've got to try to lower it. My preference is to do this without drugs. Now, it's going to be tricky, since most everything I eat is low fat or fat free. I do eat dark chocolate, so maybe that's the culprit. I eat very little red meat or cheese. So, I'm going to be eating some different things for the next six months to see if I can lower my cholesterol levels, particularly the LDL. Some of the things I'll be trying are: oatmeal, ground flaxseed, foods with plant sterols or stanols, walnuts, almonds. I'll be exercising more too.
So, stay tuned.
